The following contains spoilers for the most recent episode of Battlestar Galactica.
"Every revolution begins with a small act."
How long does it take for a mutiny to occur? A minute? An hour? Is it the thought that counts or the actions that make such an act so devious and devastating? The events in the latest episode of Battlestar Galactica last only four hours and twenty minutes, but the planning going into the mutiny took longer; the execution, however, was nothing but short and sweet.
0620 - 0632 Tigh comes in to Adama's quarters with the morning report. Ships in the fleet are still refusing the Cylon FTL drives. Right then Roslin walks in with a robe, and Tigh registers his surprise, but says nothing. He can say so much with one eye! Adama decides to leave for the CIC, and Roslin tries not to give him advice, but we get our first glimpse that the President wants to return.
Meanwhile in the hanger deck, Racetrack fakes a fuel leak to facilitate Zarek's escape. Jeanne, Baltar's follower, stays behind hidden as everyone leaves except for a deckhand formerly from the Pegasus, who is killed by Zarek when he tries to confirm the departure with CIC.
0704 - 0809 Hoshi notices the raptor on draedus. Gaeta covers and says it must be a "draedus ghost."
At around 0741 military time Zarek arrives at Colonial One just as Lee seems to be getting through to the quorum. Around the same time, Anders is beat up by Seelix and some crew members and thrown into a cell with Caprica Six.
Back in CIC Hoshi reports a fire near the wireless array and Gaeta says that it might be deliberate. Adama orders the evacuation of C Deck.
0812 Starbuck is teasing Brendan "Hot dog" Costanza about fatherhood when the evacuation order comes through. She runs into Narcho who's taken command, and she notices something is off. She returns to the soldiers quarters and grabs some ammo and guns. She calls CIC asking for Adama but Gaeta answers and rebuffs her.
At around the same time Lee calls from Colonial One, but because Gaeta handles communications, his call is also rebuffed.
In CIC Gaeta announces that communications are down.
0902 Lee arrives at Galactica and he's ambushed in the hanger deck. Starbuck saves him and throws out some great lines too.
Sharon, Helo, and Hera are taken by crew members, including a particular nasty one from Pegasus. He was there when Lt. Thorne raped Sharon, and he's looking for revenge. He beats up on Helo, and throws everyone into the brig. There Sharon says Anders is their bargaining chip.
At around the same time Starbuck and Lee find themselves in a storage room. Starbuck says she feels alive for the first time, kisses Lee (oh yeah!), and says that it's up to them to stop this. I love these two.
0922 Jaffe returns to CIC and reports that equipment has been messed with, however before Adama can react, Gaeta stands and calls the marines. The marines shoot killing Jaffe. Gaeta shouts for the marines to stop. When they do, he charges Adama with treason. Adama says Jaffe died for his uniforn, but Gaeta and those following him will die with nothing. Gaeta will probably go to hell.
0925 - 0947 Lee and Starbuck find Roslin in Adama's quarters. Roslin decides to take charge and leads them towards Baltar.
Tyrol is with Baltar. He's using the walkie talkies to communicate, and he's back in form as a leader, as if this were a new resistance and he's leading the charge. Baltar is behind him saying goodbye to his followers. His need for survival written all over his face. Roslin arrives and Tyrol tells them that Adama and Tigh have been taken to the brig. Starbuck and Lee take off to save the older gentlemen.
Except that at 0947 Tigh and Adama kick some ass, and they take a hostage.
Around the same time Roslin and Baltar have an exchange about his wireless device. She wants to use it to communicate with the fleet, but how does he know that she won't confiscate it later. The beauty behind their relationship is that now they've gone from hating each other, to actually speaking to each other as people who understand each others faults. And it shows in the little insults they throw at each other. Baltar just has to push her buttons about the prophecies, and Roslin strikes at him and his need for self-preservation, yet there's no loathing on either part. Just a weariness on both sides.
Are they becoming friends?
0956 - 1041 Starbuck and Lee run into Adama and Tigh. Starbuck tries to kill the hostage and reminds Adama that he's the enemy now. Lee also tells Adama that this is all the Cylons have left them. They can't expect the colonials to just forget what happened in the past.
Elsewhere Roslin speaks to the fleet on the wireless, but is cutoff by Gaeta. Where her words enough? She and Baltar move to the 2nd Storage bay to wait for the others. There, Baltar calls Gaeta and tries to remind him that he was an honorable man. He also mentions their secret, which makes Gaeta cutoff communications.
Adama and the others arrive, as well as a raptor from the Cylon base ship. Adama says goodbye to Roslin with a passionate kiss, and she leaves in the raptor with Baltar. Adama and Tigh stay behind to defend the storage bay while the others leave. Gaeta orders Narcho to shoot down the raptor.
To be continued...
So I thought I'd be a little resourceful and find out when the events occurred at what time. I didn't list every single time, but I found it interesting that almost every scene began with a time, and it's not something I really noticed when I watched it the first time around. The second time, it made me realize that the events surrounding the mutiny occurred much quicker, and Gaeta's planning and handling of the situation was quite simply masterful.
Having said that, was Gaeta right to do this? Hands down, mutinies are wrong, but given what Lee said and what the Cylons have done in the past, who is right and who is wrong in this situation?
Who are the loyalists? Who are the mutineers? Can you tell?
What's wrong with Gaeta's leg? Is it supposed to be significant?
Will the rebel Cylons help Roslin, or will they have their own agenda?
Where's Cavil when you need him, or don't?
